Editorial Standards, Sourcing & Corrections

Our sourcing hierarchy, field-testing protocol, corrections log, AI use disclosure, and editorial independence firewall.

In plain English

How we source, test, write and correct. Where our independence comes from, what AI we use and do not use, and how we handle disputes with manufacturers.

01

Purpose and scope

This policy describes how Yottatable sources, tests, writes and corrects the content we publish. It applies to all editorial material on yottable.top, including articles, gear records, tools and social-media output where we link to or republish that material.

02

Independence

Yottatable does not accept payment, gifts, travel or product placement in exchange for coverage. There are no sponsored rankings on this site. Where we accept manufacturer information (datasheets, declared weights, declared performance figures), we label it as manufacturer-supplied data rather than as an independent measurement.

03

Sourcing hierarchy

Each claim in an article is traceable to a source. We use the following hierarchy, with the strongest evidence first: peer-reviewed research, published standards (ISO, ASTM, EN, NFPA), official government or interagency publications, manufacturer technical documentation, and primary reporting by Yottatable or by other independent outlets with named authors.

Where a figure could not be verified to one of those tiers, we say so. A figure we cannot source is not used as a measurement.

04

How we test

  • Field trial: a minimum documented period of use in the conditions the product is designed for, with dates, locations and observed conditions.
  • Lab measurement: weight and dimensions verified on calibrated scales rather than taken from the datasheet, reported alongside the manufacturer figure.
  • Durability cycling: where relevant, standardised cycling (laundry, freezer, abrasion) with performance measured at intervals rather than at a single endpoint.
  • Price tracking: retail prices sampled across at least two markets and reported as a band, never as a single authoritative number.
05

How we handle numbers

We state the error range where the underlying science has one. We distinguish between declared manufacturer specifications and independently measured values. We distinguish between single-trip anecdote and multi-trip field data, and we say which.

06

AI use disclosure

Yottatable uses large language models for narrow drafting support: summarising published sources, generating draft outlines from a curated reading list, and checking prose for clarity. The editorial team reviews every AI-assisted draft against the underlying sources before publication. No published article is auto-generated. Tools and gear records are computed from named methods; AI is not used to produce their outputs.

07

Corrections and clarifications

Every article on this site carries a first-publication date and a revision date. Substantive corrections are logged with the date and a brief description of the change, and the article text is updated in place. Silent edits to substantive claims are not made; we will not change a figure to satisfy a third party without a public note explaining the change.

To request a correction, email [email protected] with the article URL, the statement you believe is incorrect, and the source you believe contradicts it. Verified corrections are applied within five working days where possible.

08

Right of reply and manufacturer challenges

Manufacturers and brand owners who wish to challenge a measurement should email [email protected] with their test protocol. We will not change a measurement in response to an unsupported objection, but we will engage with substantive technical evidence and will publish a correction or a rebuttal where the evidence warrants it.

09

Advertising and commercial content

We do not currently accept paid advertising or run affiliate programs on this site. The present commercial position is described in detail in our Affiliate, Sponsorship & Independence Disclosure. If that position changes, this policy and the disclosure will be updated before the change takes effect.

10

Record keeping

We retain editorial correspondence for a reasonable archive period consistent with the original request. Test data, lab measurements and the source materials behind a published article are retained for at least two years after publication.
